Every wave in a heat tells a story.
A heat sheet records one number per athlete. The heat itself holds many more layers than that. Performance Insights unlocks them, turning the story of the heat into something a coach can act on before the next one.
How it works
From recorded waves to impactful insights, in three steps
What follows is one real Championship Tour final, taken from the database as it is stored. The athlete is de-identified; nothing else is altered.
One row per wave ridden, carrying its score, the direction it broke and where in the heat it came. Each row joins to the athlete and their stance, the heat and its conditions, the round, the event and the venue. Priority is being added to the record event by event.
The public heat sheet for this athlete contains one number: 17.90.

Three things a coach can use. None of them recoverable from a heat sheet, and all of them comparable across every athlete and every event, because every heat in the database is structured the same way.
Across 2,311 decisive one-on-one heats. Catching more waves than your opponent is close to a coin flip at 51.1%. It is the best single wave that decides the heat, and here that was the 9.53.
Four of the eight waves scored 8.00 or better. The Championship Tour runs at 3.92% across 36,250 waves. This is one heat though, and a rate built on eight waves is a snapshot rather than a career.
Across 21,414 waves where we hold direction, forehand rides score 8.00 or better 5.05% of the time against 3.85% on the backhand. We store every athlete's stance and every wave's direction, so that runs for one athlete as easily as for the whole tour.
The metric layer
Twenty-one concrete metrics and counting…
Ask what a number means and you get a straight answer. A coach comparing two athletes knows the comparison is fair. An athlete sees the same figure this season as last, so improvement is real rather than a change of method. A federation can hand any figure to a reviewer and have it reproduce. Every report, brief and screen reads the same definitions, so nothing shifts quietly between them.
Every rate says what it is out of. When an athlete's excellent-wave rate moves, you can tell whether they surfed better or simply surfed more heats. That is the difference between a training decision and a false alarm.

36,250 waves across the Championship Tour, 2022 to 2026, banded to the WSL judging scale. Fewer than one wave in twenty-five is excellent, which is why the rate has to be read against conditions. In light winds the tour scores excellent on 5.13% of waves. Onshore it falls to 1.88%.

What lands in a coach's hands
A coach walks into a heat knowing what a winning score looks like there. An athlete sees where their scoring holds up and where it slips. A federation gets selection and preparation decisions it can defend. All of it is delivered today as structured reporting, with the platform following.
One page per athlete, generated ahead of the event: season form to date, venue history, and how the field has historically scored at the break.
Every figure is benchmarked against the venue being surfed, so the target score you take into the heat comes from that break rather than from a different one.
Built from the heats actually surfed. Every wave reconstructed, the two that counted identified, and the result read against the athlete's own baseline rather than a league average.
Back with you inside the competition window where the calendar allows, so the debrief lands while the next heat can still use it.
